Mobile Phones and Mental Health

“These kids and their phones” is often how the sentiment goes, but nowadays the Facebook wormhole can suck in ‘boomers’ and ‘zoomers’ alike. As a society we can all agree that mobile ‘smart’ phones have ushered in a new era of society, with countless pros and cons. But aside from affecting our methods of communication, what are some of the effects of these handy devices?

In late 2018, a professor in Sweden conducted a study on the psychological and behavioral aspects of mobile phone use. Her study compiled data from 290 papers and lists some of her findings. Considering mental health is something essential for us to lead happy and healthy lives, and almost all of us use these devices daily, this paper is a good reminder for us all.
