Porportions of Macronutrients in Prospective anti-Alzheimers Diet

Being careful about what we put into our bodies is vital to maintaining our health, and potentially prolonging our healthy lifespan. Some centenarians have even been found to have taste receptors that gravitate towards healthier foods. We all wish we could find the perfect diet, however our bodies change as we age, thus calling for a change in diet as we get older. It has been proposed that there are different needs for macronutrient ratios in different periods of life. This study therefore proposes what proportions of macronutrients could be ingested throughout different periods of life based on personal income, age-adjusted death rates for Alzheimers Disease, and changing proportions of macronutrients in the average American diet between 1929 and 2005

The main finding of this study is that lower consumption of protein in the mid-life, and higher consumption for the period of late age, (compared with what was eaten in the USA), may benefit our health and longevity.

The authors postulate that applying these changes in the consumption of protein throughout the whole life of an individual could act prophylactically against development of AD and possibly extend health-span and the duration of life.

This information is not intended as advice. The ideal diet for any individual varies, however our hopes are that studies such as this will prompt new research by standard epidemiological methods to confirm these findings.
