We often hear talk of slowing down our epigenetic, (or aging) clock… but what exactly does that entail? And how can we go about executing this feat? A paper published in 2017 by Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP), establishes a basis to “understand the epigenetic contribution to healthy aging and longevity and the molecular basis of the DNA methylation clock.”

Peter Adams Ph.D., the senior author of the paper, said in February of this year that recent findings from SBP “provide a foundation upon which we can start to develop drugs that extend our healthspan.” This research could potentially identify targets for anti-aging medicines and ultimately lead to treatments that promote healthy aging or prevent age-associated diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease and more. We at the Methuselah Foundation agree with Dr. Adams that interventions can’t come soon enough!
